Loughborough University has an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research, strong links with industry, and unrivalled sporting achievement.
Loughborough hosts some 12000 students and employs some 3000 employees. The University has been involved in over 100 European funded projects from which the annual income exceeds 6 Million Euros (€7.5 Million in 2005). The university is research-intensive. Its ethos from its earliest days has been to produce highly relevant research that solves real world problems to assist both business and industry, and improve people's quality of life. Nearly half of the University's income is for research, and its research partnerships and links with business and industry are the envy of other institutions.
All departments have a strong research base and contribute to an international reputation. The university has won an unbeaten 5 Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education, the latest of which was in 2005 for its world leading role in evaluating and helping to develop social policy related programmes
Recently published league tables place Loughborough among the top 6 universities in the UK, and in 2005-2006 full-time students voted Loughborough as the top favourite university in the new National Student Survey, ,confirming it as one of the country's leading higher education institutions.

This excellent rating was the highest awarded at the time and is still among the best for Civil and Building Engineering in the country.
